The Rondsje Om Terschelling is a purpose-driven effort that aims at extending the rich culture of sloop (gig) rowing to a broader audience, by making the goals created for local rowing teams available through online training, a global leaderboard, and a season kick-off LIVE event for participants.
It is important to me that the training made available for local teams is available for all participants looking to achieve their goals for the winter.
Goals for Rondsje Om Terschelling
For the past 6 months, the Rondsje Om Terschelling has been developing to meet the needs of sloop rowers in this region. Although, it has an aim to attract traditional rowers, hybrid athletes and those interesting in sustainable ways to achieve their goals.
The events available are basic, but the magic is in the training. Training as a team if fun. Finding friendship and belonging through training is an element shared by all rowers, no matter what the discipline.
How we will achieve those goals
Yes, through are partner affiliate, Stichting Rowing Without Limits, Rondsje Om Terschelling gives participants the ability to register, and have 90% of their registration fees donated to Spieren voor Spieren.

Half-Marathon - 25 euro

2000m - 20 euro
500m - 15 euro
The events are the Marathon, Half-Marathon, the 5000m, the 2000m and the 500m (sprint). Teams of 4 can also participate in all events, except the 500m.
ErgZone is the ONLY mobile app that allows coaches and athletes to program a custom ergometer workouts. I also invite athletes and teams to train virtually using the same platform. The application also allows results to be ranked globally via an online leaderboard, and racing LIVE (head-to-head).
For 2026, Teams of 4 men or 4 women can join. The reasoning is to create a collective LIVE sloep rowing experience in a virtual environment. At the moment, individual results are averaged to create a boat position (rank) amongst other boats at the end of the LIVE race.
The software team is currently developing the ability for individual results to be averaged LIVE during head-to-head racing; effectively creating boat vs. boat LIVE action.
Online documentation is accessible. Please inform info@robox.fitness so the development team is aware.
Good question. To become comfortable working in and connecting your rowing machine with ErgZone takes a little practice. Believe me, just ask any member of my classes! If you choose to train with us (starting in January) you will have plenty of time to become comfortable.
ErgZone has suggested creating formal practice sessions along the way; where registrants will connect together and learn together.
Training for a row marathon using heart rate zones (with an approximate MHR from the 500m base) and limited time (2 x 45 to 60-minute rows per week) provides several specific and strategic benefits—especially for beginners or busy individuals.
Heart rate zone training with a time-efficient structure helps beginners:
There will be no refunds. Please know this upfront. We count on your entry fee to support this event and all its associated costs.

If you are rowing on machine that does not interface with ErgZone, or on a Concept2 RowErg with a PM older that the PM5, you can still compete! You won't be able to connect to live racing on ErgZone, but you can manually submit your score on the ErgZone app. It will count in our official results and rankings.
We are still working on this. Locally in Terschelling, we are trying to find budget to provide participant medallions and Terschelling flag headbands! Concept2 also provides a certificate for those who submit their race via the Concept2 logbook.
This is my first year organizing the Rondsje Om. I hope to get better at this in the next few years.. so you get better stuff!
Rowers IN OTHER TIME ZONES may compete independently at their local time while the leaderboards are open.

My name is Brock Sampson. I’ve been ‘getting people together’ through health & wellness for many years now. My vehicle has been the sport of rowing and measured fitness through the ergometer.
Concept2 wrote a small article on the training efforts I've created on Terschelling through the ergometer. Terschelling, and surrounding provinces has a very rich tradition of sloop (gig) rowing. My attempts to introduce the RowErg as a way to keep their existing teams fit during the winter, have proven successful. Athletics, fitness and wellness through the indoor rower (and ski ergometer) are changing minds toward measured fitness.
I created the first installment of the Rondsje Om, the Rondsje Om Terschelling, to highlight training efforts and make them available globally through available technologies.
If you have questions, please contact us. Better yet, save your spot, and register today.

The training plan is FREE, and is offered via a downloadable Google Sheet. I only require an email address to provide view only access rights. If you need something a bit more personal, please contact me.
If you're comfortable with the plan, my advise is to register for an event. Registration creates a strong bond to this new year goal.
Note*: With first sign-up/ sign-in with ErgZone, please be mindful of a fair gender classification, and weight categorization. This will influence your rankings via the global leaderboard.
Sloep Boats, Olympic 8+ and other hybrid athlete teams are welcome to participate in head-to-head marathon rankings. 8 rowers will row together. ErgZone will calculate the average pace for the collective boat. This would be very exciting during the marathon race on Saturday, June 17th! For instructions please refer to the Team Formation article.
Your journey and training success means a lot to me, and can be an inspiration for others. Please share your journey using the following hashtags:
My coach use to say how much glory there was in rowing on your own; getting the meters in when no one is watching. It's the rower's form of integrity.
I see you garage athletes. I see you trail runners. Let's get these meters in, together.
My wife, who is Dutch, remembers taking a Rondsje Om with her family when she was young; on Sunday, a nice little walk around her local village...Ofcourse, on the opposite end, you can join a most unique virtual endurance challenge inspired by the legendary waters and maritime heritage of Terschelling, Netherlands. Race solo or with your team — from anywhere in the world. What a Rondsje Om this will be!
